AZUB MAX is a chariot you will fall in love with. When you sit on it, you cannot but beam with delight. Or even squeal with joy. This bike runs like clockwork, it devours all straight roads like nothing before and going downhill is a never ending joy. With its two large 26” wheels it is a recumbent like none other. The rear suspension is supplied as standard, and together with the optional front suspension, the AZUB MAX is a comfortable and fast bike which turns a road full of potholes into a smooth asphalt thoroughfare.
Fun through and through
A robust main frame tube extending from the boom to the rack. An asymmetrical organically shaped rear fork. A pulley following the movement of the chain. Robust appearance. All this makes the MAX an icon which hundreds of cyclists have fallen in love with. The AZUB MAX will make you feel that you can do absolutely anything, go round your town ten times or conquer a continent. Everything is possible and anything you decide will be incredible fun.
The MAX is a recumbent bike for active cyclists who enjoy a fast ride and great challenges. Unlike our recumbents with a 20” front wheel and 26” rear wheel, it has a more sporty seating position, characterized by the crankset being placed higher than the bottom of the ergonomic seat. The rider is thus better seated and can put more power in the pedals.
Bigger is better
AZUB comes from the Czech Republic and for Czechs, cycling is the most common sport. Bicycles are not used here only for transport, but people like spending their free time on them. That is also why mountain bikes are so popular. When Aleš Zemánek was building his first recumbent bike, he even then intended to create a very comfortable bike that could be used in many terrains. And he didn’t want to make any compromises in ergonomics or durability, so mountain bikes were his inspiration. Just the rider’s position was something he wasn’t keen on. However, at the very beginning he embarked on the traditional European concept, a recumbent with a 20” front wheel and 26” rear wheel. Nevertheless, customers soon made it clear that large wheels were what tempted their interest. Therefore, there soon appeared an AZUB MAX with both wheels in size 26”. And since mountain bikes were Aleš’s inspiration, it is not surprising that the MAX has been kitted out with proper suspension, high-quality components, has superior handling and is extremely durable. So it happens that since 2004, AZUB MAX brings joy to people who follow the motto “bigger is better”.
24 or 26?
However, this motto applies only to a certain extent. For all of us here in AZUB it is vital that our customer are completely happy and that they choose the best bike that we can offer just them. But for people of smaller stature, the AZUB MAX with 26” wheels is slightly too high. Our many years of experience tell us that when this bike is equipped with a front suspension, its rider must be at least 180 cm tall, say 175 cm at the very least. Otherwise, he or she might have trouble with getting on and off, frequent stopping and starting in heavy city traffic or in more difficult terrain and on slippery surfaces. When the MAX is equipped with a rigid front fork, the rider should be at least 170 cm tall. Due to these restrictions, we have also developed a version of the MAX with 24” wheels. This size does complicate things a little bit concerning the selection of rims, tyres and especially suspension forks, but then again it brings pleasure od riding on a MAX to smaller people too. However, if you are thinking of riding in really difficult terrain, you should consider purchasing our AZUB MINI with 20” wheels. 2 types of steering
You can choose from two different styles of steering. It is either the ASS – above seat steering (also called over seat steering) or the USS – under seat.
Asymetrical rear fork
The design of our asymmetric rear fork we presented at the SPEZI 2007 astonished not only recumbent bike riders but also professionals. It is not a gadget for a mere showing off! You can experience the functionality of its original shape and of its unique fit into AZUB frames on the Mini, SIX and MAX models.
We’ve eliminated the “pogo effect” by placing a chain pulley on the Top Line models. What is more, it is positioned on an axis made of high quality stainless steel, which allows the chain to swing smoothly from the left to the right according to the set gear. This technical solution improves the chain’s lifetime and lowersthe resistance that occurs when the axis is in a fixed position.
Super-oversized main frame tube
AZUB frames are recognisable by their central frame tube to which all the major elements are fixed, be it the head tube with the front fork, the seat, the rear fork bracket or the luggage racks. This solution not only gives our bikes maximal stiffness and solidity, hence providing stable riding performance, but also an important carriage capacity in the form of its back carrier. You will especially appreciate our technical solution when fully loaded with several bags behind you, as their weight will not influence the riding performance of your recumbent at all.

For years, we have tried not to restrict our cyclist customers in the selection of components they can have on their bicycles. After all, there are so many different people with so many different tastes and needs. Plus, the world of cycling is bursting with interesting solutions. Therefore, we can offer you both a traditional shifter with a triple crankset as well as the unique Pinion gearbox, or the Shimano Alfine Di2 electronic shifting. Likewise, you may want to ride on tarmac roads with tyres as thin as a sheet of paper or you might just prefer the comfort of wide balloon tyres. That is why we have such a wide range of components. As well as our wide range of components, we also offer an extensive list of accessories you can mount on your bike. Well, you cannot be expected to be happy with the same rack and the same lights when commuting to work and when cycling in rough terrain. And because we enjoy both commuting to work and revelling in rough terrain, as well as riding across the continent, we do have an idea of what might come in handy. Bikes for everyone
Not everyone on this planet is lucky enough to be healthy, fully mobile and able to set off wherever they want at the drop off a hat. Helping people with a variety of physical health problems or even psychological problems gives our business a completely different dimension. And because cycling is often one of the few ways such people can enjoy outdoor exercise, we are always overjoyed when we manage to build a bike for someone who really needs it. In our offer you will therefore find features such as brakes and shifting mounted only one side, the Shimano Di2 electronic shifting that requires very little force to control, or a rarity such as push brakes. Made in the Czech Republic
We are very proud to be personally acquainted with the person who welds our frames, to know who then paints them and who operates the laser with which all the necessary holes are burned into the tubes. We are equally pleased with the fact that we employ our neighbours and friends and that most of them have been working for us for many years now. Apart from some ordinary components such as derailleurs or tyres, our bikes are made in the Czech Republic with some components sourced from nearby Slovakia. This allows us to respond to our customers’ demands rapidly and also to produce small number orders of just several models a year. These bikes could not be created in Asia, where volumes are everything, at all. Meet the people who make the wheels turn in AZUB.
