After our multi-day recumbent rally last summer, one of the participants got back to us with a clear idea. During the event, he had the chance to try several bikes — and one in particular stood out: the AZUB MINI ridden by our mechanic Ondra.
That became the starting point.
The goal was to build something similar, but with a few key upgrades to make the bike more versatile and practical for everyday use.
The most significant changes are the folding hinge and the drivetrain choice — Shimano Alfine 11.
The folding hinge makes the bike more compact for storage and transport, adding a level of flexibility that the MINI does not offer as standard. The Alfine 11 internal gear hub keeps the drivetrain enclosed and protected from dirt and weather, which means low maintenance and reliable performance. It also allows shifting while stationary and delivers smooth, consistent gear changes — especially useful in urban riding or stop-and-go situations.
Specification highlights:
• AZUB MINI
• Folding hinge (custom modification)
• Shimano Alfine 11 (drivetrain outside our standard offer)
• Above Seat Steering
• Shimano Cues hydraulic brakes
• Composite seat + Seat cover Ventisit comfort
• Colorshop – Neon Ping Shiny + Orange Shiny
• Saso air fork + DNM air shock
• Bike rack
• SON dynamo hub + SON Edelux front light + B&M Toplight View rear light
• Mudguards
• Headrest
Folding is a key feature of the AZUB ORIGAMI, where it is part of the standard design. However, in this case, the ORIGAMI wasn’t the right fit. While the folding hinge is not a standard option for the MINI or other models, it can be implemented on request on the MINI frame.
Please note that solutions like this are outside our standard offer and come with an individual surcharge, as they are not listed in our regular pricing.
