Why Lubo switched from Upright Trike to Recumbent One

AZUB T-Tris 26

Just a few years ago, Lubo was competing at the highest level on an upright tricycle, riding thousands of kilometers every year. Today, he only races occasionally and mostly for fun. What has never changed, however, is his love of speed.

That is why he decided to switch to a recumbent trike, choosing the AZUB T-Tris 26, which we customized not only to accommodate his physical needs but also to match his competitive spirit.

What Advantages Does a Recumbent Trike Offer Compared to an Upright Adult Tricycle?

Lubo’s transition from an upright trike to the AZUB T-Tris 26 perfectly illustrates why many experienced riders eventually choose a recumbent trike over a traditional upright adult tricycle.

  • Greater stability thanks to a much lower center of gravity.
  • Easier handling without the need to coordinate body lean and vehicle balance.
  • Improved safety during everyday riding as well as at higher speeds.
  • More natural cornering and better overall control.
  • Significantly greater comfort on long rides thanks to full back support.
  • Less strain on the hands, shoulders, and neck compared to an upright riding position.
  • More confidence on descents and during fast riding.
  • A short learning curve for most new riders.
  • An excellent option for active riders with physical limitations who do not want to compromise on performance or riding enjoyment.

Built for Speed

Lubo chose Lime Green with a Deep Metallic finish from our standard color range and equipped his trike with components that clearly reflect his racing background. Speed comes courtesy of Schwalbe One tires and a wireless SRAM Rival AXS 2×12 electronic drivetrain paired with a 10–36 cassette.

One particularly unique request involved the crankset. Lubo uses crank arms of different lengths—175 mm on one side and 172.5 mm on the other. Because one of his legs is slightly shorter, this setup has been his preferred solution on all of his bikes for many years, providing a simple and proven way to compensate for the difference.

Details That Make the Difference

Another standout feature is the set of dual-sided power meters integrated directly into the crank arms, giving Lubo precise insight into his performance.

And because he needs his left hand to remain securely connected to the handlebar, we equipped his AZUB T-Tris 26 with a special mounting system based on a ski pole grip with its original strap, installed directly onto our handlebars.

The result is a solution that is lightweight, elegant, highly ergonomic, and thoroughly proven in real-world use. The hand stays securely positioned exactly where it should be, while still allowing for quick and easy release whenever necessary.

The Joy of Riding Without Compromise

Lubo’s AZUB T-Tris 26 is a perfect example of how switching to a recumbent trike does not have to mean giving up performance. Quite the opposite.

When the experience of a lifelong racer meets the possibilities of a custom-built machine, the result is a trike that delivers speed, confidence, comfort, and safety without compromise.

Whether it is an occasional race, a fast ride on familiar roads, or an all-day adventure, one thing matters most: the ride should always be enjoyable.
